General secretary for the Goa Cricket Association ROHAN GAUNS DESSAI discusses his managerial role during India’s recent tour to South Africa T20I series and his overall plans for cricket infrastructure in the state.
Rohan Gauns Dessai has big cricket dreams for the small state of Goa. The general secretary of Goa Cricket Association recently toured
South Africa as manager of the Indian cricket team on their T20 tour and brought back a heightened desire to improve infrastructure here.
In the South Africa T20I series, the Men in Blue took an unassailable lead and won it in style. Dessai, a former cricket player himself, found himself apprehensive during the finals. India’s fate was at stake but Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson proved otherwise and scripted history scoring hundreds in a row.
Samson hit a century in 51 balls and Varma in 41 deliveries. Winning that last match and registering a huge score of 283/1 was the icing
on the cake. It was a moment of glory for India as Varma and Samson were the first pair from full-member nations to score centuries in single innings in T20Is.
A son of Xeldem in Curchorem, Dessai had a candid chat with ViVa Goa about his role as a team manager in the India v/s South Africa T20I series and his development plans for cricket in Goa.
Congratulations on being appointed manager of the indian team during the recent tour to South africa. What was your role and responsibilities?
Thank you. As a team manager, I had to co-ordinate the entire tour in South Africa. All the licensing officers from the South African Cricket Board were appointed and basically all the logistics, player movement and all the arrangements at the stadium had to be co-ordinated with the local cricket board (South African Cricket Board).
I was part of that co-ordination committee as an Indian team manager and that was the primary duty entrusted to me by the BCCI.
