Exploring the world releases endorphins which bring on feelings of wellbeing and happiness.
Laughter is the best medicine. And perhaps travel is equally great, Followed of course by sports, music, exercise, yoga and diet. Notice none of them are bitter. Sweet as the many ways to great health are, let’s touch on the topic of travel for leisure. In the words of J Bronowski, Man (Human) is a singular creature.
He is the most gifted animal. He is not just a figure in the landscape, but a shaper of the landscape, an explorer of nature, the ubiquitous animal, who did not find, but has made his home in every continent. And to make his home in every continent, he obviously had to travel. Our travel in evolution has been unique from a fossil lemur a million years ago to Aegyptopithecus, Dryopithecus, Ramapithecus, Australopithecus, to homoerectus and now homo sapiens. While travelling this evolution, man was always a nomad and moved according to availability of food, be it plant, fruit or animals. Until agriculture was invented and animals were domesticated, man travelled.
As Yuval Noah Harari put it: “Wheat captured or tamed the human being”. “We settled as settlers and are now in the jail of our homes.”
This is why travel time is happy time.
