Manipal Hospital Goa observed World Cancer Day with the inauguration of a tobacco cessation clinic in collaboration with the National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) at its premises in Dona Paula, Panjim. The state-of-the-art clinic, open to the public, is equipped with carbon monoxide monitors, cotinine test equipment, and the services of a skilled tobacco cessation specialist.
It was inaugurated by eminent singer Hema Sardesai with the hospital’s head of Oncology Dr Shekhar Salkar, Goa head Manish Trivedi, and others. Cancer survivors were also felicitated at the ceremony. Dr Salkar pointed out that the clinic was opened with the aim to identify tobacco users and help them quit the habit. The center is targetting at least 500 patients this year.
