Sanjana Prabhugaonkar – Swimming sensation

The pandemic-driven lockdown almost put the brakes on her training, but for Sanjana Prabhugaonkar, the closure of swimming pools and gyms wasn’t enough to hang up her goggles. In fact, it pushed her resolve to try even harder.

Since the age of three, the teenager has had her sights set on the podium and consistently works to get there. Now 14, she takes the experience of every meet she’s ever competed in with her to the next.

Last May, she set a new meet record at the APEX 1st Swimming Community Open Championship in Dubai, claiming the gold in 100m backstroke with a timing of 01.11.22. In total, Sanjana came away with four golds and one silver at the UAE meet.

Back in India in October 2021, she followed that up with a gold medal in the 200m backstroke at the 37th Sub-Junior and 47th Junior National Aquatic Championships 2021 in Bangalore. Her laurels earned her a place in the national junior swimming squad training in Johannesburg between March 17 and April 17 this year in anticipation of the South African National Aquatic Championship and the Open National Swimming Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa last month.
