Mann Ki Baat 100

The eponymous series reached a new milestone as it completed 100 episodes earlier this year

Why would India’s most tech-savvy politician seek to embrace a medium believed to be obsolete? Think particularly of the virtual world, and the picture that comes to mind is a Tweeting, Facebooking and Instagramming leader who dominates the television and the Internet. In early 2009, when no leader had yet realised the importance of social media, he joined Twitter. At a time when Facebook was seen only as a medium of personal communication, he was out there, talking about development initiatives as the chief minister of Gujarat.

No wonder many found it surprising when, very early on during his tenure, the prime minister announced that he would do a monthly radio programme in which he proposed to share, as the name suggests, his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ or musings from the heart.
