The Sky’s The Limit

Women pilots may be a minority worldwide, but the numbers are slowly progressing in our country’s favour, with India currently holding the highest number of female pilots in the world. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), women make up around 15 per cent of the country’s pilot workforce – a figure that continues to outplace the global average.

Closer home, Goan women are steadily contributing to this upward trajectory, carving a space for themselves in one of aviation’s most demanding professions. From a state better known for tourism than aviation, a growing cohort of skilled young pilots are stepping forward, graciously expanding the presence of women in the flight deck.

This Women’s Special, VIVA GOA brings together some of the youngest female pilots from Goa, who with strong family support and discipline, were able to achieve significant milestones early in their careers. With years of dedicated training, these women have overcome considerable challenges to establish themselves in a highly competitive field, while opening the door for a fleet of women to take to the skies.
