Goa may be paradise for the soul, but for your skin and hair, it’s not always easy. The high humidity, salt-laden breeze, and constant exposure to sun and pollution can silently affect your skin barrier and scalp health. The good news? With the right care, you can make the tropical climate work for you rather than against you.

Humidity, for instance, increases sebum production, which often leads to breakouts, fungal acne, and scalp build- up. On the flip side, it also helps skin retain moisture, provided you’re using the right kind of hydration. Lightweight, gel-based moisturisers with humectants like hyaluronic acid or glycerin work beautifully in Goan weather. Avoid heavy creams that clog pores and trap sweat.
Sun exposure is another big concern. Goa’s coastal UV index is one of the highest in India, and the effects of unprotected exposure, pigmentation, tanning, and premature ageing, can be long-lasting. Daily SPF 50 is non- negotiable, even on cloudy days. Opt for a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen and remember to reapply every 2–3 hours if you’re outdoors.
Hair, too, bears the brunt of this weather. The mix of humidity and saltwater can cause frizz, dryness, and even dandruff flare-ups. My advice? Keep your scalp clean. Shampoo regularly with a mild, sulphate-free formula and follow with a nourishing conditioner or hair serum. A once- weekly scalp exfoliation with salicylic acid or a gentle scrub helps clear oil and sweat buildup.
