Dattaraj Salgaocar hosts Austrian National Day celebration

Noted industrialist and honorary consul for Austria in Goa Dattaraj Salgaocar hosted an evening to mark Austrian National Day in Goa at
Goa Marriott Resort recently.

On the occasion, Austrian citizenship documents were handed over to Ilan Grossman from Israel. The citizenship was granted based on Austria’s policy that grants citizenship to descendants of Jewish persons who were forced to migrate to escape persecution during the Nazi German occupation of Austria in the 1940s.

The ambassador mentioned that there are over 30,000 people worldwide who have received citizenship under this rule. However, she said that this is the first time in India that Austrian citizenship is being granted under this rule. Dignitaries who were present include minister for Law & Judiciary aleixo Sequeria, former chief minister Francisco Sardinha, MLAs Vijai Sardesai, Dr Deviya rane and Carlos alvares Ferreira.
