Harvard alumna\u00a0DR DEEPA DHUME DATTA\u00a0discusses her role as chief<\/strong> of the Advanced Economics Section on the US Federal Reserve Board and her heritage in Goa as a delegate representing the US government at the recent G20 summit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economics runs the world. A significant economic event in even the smallest country affects world trade. So knowing what lies ahead can keep a country on its feet in the race for power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is what Dr Deepa Dhume Datta does for the USA. She is chief of the Advanced Economies Section on the Federal Reserve Board, which serves as the country\u2019s central bank, manages monetary policy and strengthens US standing in the world economy, among other responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born and raised in the US, Dr Datta returned to her parents\u2019 hometown in Cumbarjua every three years, spending several weeks with family. Her holidays here opened her eyes to the changing economics of Goa as she watched<\/p>\n\n\n\n

it morph since her previous visits, creating a curiosity for the subject and pushing her to dive deeper during her graduate and post-graduate study at Harvard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was recently in Goa representing the Board for the International Financial Architecture Working Group at the G20 meetings where she had discussions with colleagues from across the globe and an interaction with chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant. VIVA GOA caught up with her for a quick chat about her work and her treasured memories of Goa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
