Dr Kedar\u2019s Maternity, Infertility and Surgical Hospital was awarded first place in the Hospital Energy Conservation initiative by minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy Sudin Dhavalikar during the National Energy Conservation Week 2024 recently organised by the Department of Electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Promoter of the hospital and reputed gynecologist and obstetrician Dr Kedar Padte said, \u201cHospitals operate 24\/7, utilising a vast array of medical equipment, lighting and HVAC systems. Energy demand results in substantial electricity bills, which can be a significant financial burden to the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Listing down the strategies that the hospital in Panaji implements, he said, \u201cI save electricity in my hospital by using energy-efficient lighting such as LED bulbs, which significantly reduce electrical consumption. Upgrading to energy-efficient Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, which undergo regular maintenance and its use is regulated by controlling the temperature.\u201d Dr Padte added, \u201cWe instruct patients and the staff to switch off A\/Cs when not required.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the hospital, Dr Padte uses energy-efficient medical equipment with the Energy Star label indicating a product has been certified by the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as energy-efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPower management can be done efficiently by installing smart power strips that turn off equipment automatically when not in use,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Kedar\u2019s hospital taps into solar energy resources by installing solar panels to reduce carbon footprint and energy costs. \u201cIn November 2024, we received a refund of `25000 from Goa Electricity Department after using renewable energy sources,\u201d said Dr Padte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
